A familiar face for the Travis Tigers was atop the medal stand on Thursday for the 2019 District 20-6A Cross Country Championships at Kitty Hollow Park in Missouri City.

Senior Katie Straub returned to the gold medal position with a time of 17 minutes and 9.99 seconds for her second district championship in 5,000-meter run. Straub beat out last year’s champion Clements sophomore Haley Lexi Harkrider by nearly 30 seconds (17:37.65).

Overall, Travis had six runners finish in the top 20. Senior Ian Price was the top finisher for the boys. Price was fifth with a time of 15:36.21 in the 5,000-meter run.

Ethan Wasserman in 12th (16:15.14) and Ben Broekhuis (16:22.96) in 14th joined Price on the medal stand.

Hannah Kocian in 15th (19:52.75), Brooke Collins at 19th (20:00.99) and K’lynn Carrington in 20th (20:05.4) rounded out the medal winners for the Travis girls.

The Tiger teams qualified for the Region III-6A championship on Monday, Oct. 28 at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Huntsville. Both teams finished in third in the team standings with girls netting 82 points and the boys getting 95.
