So far, the Sugar Land Skeeters have been unaffected with the rapid changes on their roster and are one of the top teams in Triple-A West.

As of Friday, Sugar Land has a 31-22 record, good for first place in the Triple-A West’s Eastern Division. The Skeeters have a four-game lead over Oklahoma City and Round Rock, both with 28-27 records.

Also, Sugar Land is one of two Triple-A West teams with 30-plus with so far this season, with the Reno Aces with 36 wins since Friday.

Doubleheader set for Sunday

Because of Thursday night’s game being rained out, the Skeeters will play a doubleheader against Tacoma on Sunday at Constellation Field.

The Skeeters and Rainiers will play two seven-inning games, with the first game at 4:05 p.m. and the second game at 7:05 p.m.

Thursday’s game was the second home rainout for Sugar Land and its fourth of the season. The last rainout came for the first game of a doubleheader against El Paso on May 24.

Hey Siri, how good is Jose Siri?

Sugar Land outfielder Jose Siri has hit 10 home runs this season, becoming the first player in Triple A West with at least 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases.

In his last 14 games, Siri is hitting .352 (19-for-54) with four homers and nine RBIs. He is also third in Triple-A West in stolen bases (14), fourth in RBIs (43), eighth in hitting (.325) and tied for ninth in doubles (14).

Geaux Pappy

Sugar Land catcher/first baseman Michael Papierski is tied for fifth in Triple-A West with a .418 on-base percentage. The LSU alum has reached safely in 17 straight games. He’s also hit .340 (17-for-50) with a home run and 10 RBIs over that stretch.

Skeeters pitching tops in Triple-A West

Sugar Land pitching has allowed five-or-less hits in three of its last four games. Over that stretch, Skeeters pitching has recorded a 3.50 ERA.

The Skeeters lead Triple-A West with a 4.18 team ERA.

As of Tuesday, Sugar Land led all Triple-A teams and was fourth best among all full-season minor-league teams with a 1.81 ERA in July.

The week ahead

After the Skeeters wrap up the series against Tacoma on Tuesday, they will head to Albuquerque to open a six-game series against the Isotopes beginning on Thursday.
