The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped their seventh game in a row as High Point scored eight runs in the first three innings for a 9-1 win at Constellation Field on Thursday.
Richie Shaffer hit two home runs for the Rockers, including a three-run homer in the first inning off of Skeeter pitcher Troy Scribner.
High Point scored five runs in the third inning, with RBI hits from Quincy Latimore and Viosergy Rosa. Kalian Sams then hit a three-run homer to put the Rockers up 8-0.
Shaffer would later hit a solo homer again off Schribner in the fifth inning.
Schribner picked up the loss after giving up nine runs on nine hits in six innings of work. He struck out seven and walked two.
High Point pitcher Tyler Herron got the win by holding the Skeeters to no runs on two hits in six innings of work.
The lone run for Sugar Land came on a solo home run by Alberto Cordero in the seventh inning.
The Skeeters, now 31-30 on the season, again face High Point on Friday night. It will be “Guaranteed Win Night” at Constellation Field, meaning if Sugar Land doesn’t win, all fans at the game will receive a free voucher for a future game.
