Touchdown Mustangs!

Lamar Consolidated senior quarterback BJ Harris celebrates score against Paetow.

Weeks of practice, preparation and 10 football games have determined which four teams in each district across Texas have made the playoffs.

The opening round of the playoffs will begin Thursday with half of the postseason field reduced by the weekend.

Seven area teams in the playoff field: Travis, George Ranch, Foster, Lamar Consolidated, Needville, East Bernard and Brazos.

Travis (10-0) will play arguably one of the toughest opening matchups against Katy Tompkins (9-1) Thursday at Mercer Stadium at 7 p.m.

George Ranch (4-6) will play Clear Falls (7-2) on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in League City.

Foster (6-4) will travel to New Caney (10-0) on Friday to play the Eagles at 7 p.m.

With its week 10 victory, Lamar Consolidated earned the No. 2 seed in District 10-5A DII and will face Lindale (7-3) on Friday at Traylor Stadium.

Needville (8-2) faces Canyon Lake (6-4) on Friday at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan at 7:30 p.m.

East Bernard (10-0) will battle Sonora (4-6) on Friday at New Braunfels’ Unicorn Stadium.

Brazos (3-7) battles Refugio, No. 1 team in Class 2A DI, on Friday at Gobbler Stadium in Cuero.
