TYLER — Lufkin scored eight runs in the fourth inning to get past the Needville Junior League All-stars, 10-6, in Saturday’s first round contest at Faulkner Park.
Needville played Post Oak, the Section 3 champion, at 5 p.m. Sunday in an elimination bracket contest.
Lufkin made the most of six walks and four singles in the fourth to take a commanding lead.
Needville battled back to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. But Needville left 11 runners on base during the contest.
The first two runs came on an error on Mason Albright’s grounder that was thrown past first base.
With two outs in the fifth, Caleb Uherek and scored when Jacob Vacek tripled to deep left. A nine-pitch at bat to Tristan Ordeneaux finally led to an RBI single..
Needville stranded two more in the sixth after singles by Tyler Ewart and Thomas Schreck didn't came up empty.
In the seventh, singles by Ordeneaux and Wieghat were erased on a pick-off at first and a fielders choice at third.
Lufkin played stellar defense throughout. In the third, a walk and a single by Schreck and Dakota Palmer, respectively, came up empty.
