George Ranch’s Nora Thompson delivers a pitch during the LCISD Tournament.

Nora Thompson and Zaria Turner combined for a three-hit win and Mariah Garner knocked in two runs to help George Ranch beat the Austin Lady Bulldogs, 4-2 Tuesday at Longhorn Field.

The victory moves the Longhorns’ 20-6A record to 9-1 with just four games remaining in district play. George Ranch hosts the Lady Panthers from Ridge Point Friday at 6 p.m.

Thompson was head Coach Donna Vrba’s starter to face Austin.

The junior pitcher yielded one run on two hits in three innings of work while striking out two and walking one.

Jessie Shipley doubled off the second pitch she saw from Thompson and came around to score in the first inning on a walk and a passed ball.

Right fielder Angelina Lam singled to open the third inning for the only other hit off Thompson.

Freshman Zaria Turner pitched the remaining four innings for the Longhorns, giving up one run on one hit—the second double of the game by Shipley—while striking out eight.

Turner walked five batters, four in the sixth inning, but escaped with just one run scored after a picture-perfect 4-6-3 double play.

Catcher Tiana McFarland hit a grounder to second baseman Kennedy Marlow, who backhanded a throw to shortstop Seleste Compian, who came across second base and threw a dart to Kyleigh Smith to nail McFarland at first.

George Ranch finally broke through against starter and losing pitcher, Angie Leal, in the third inning with three runs on two hits, two walks and a hit batsman.

Leal struck out the side in the first and second innings and struck out Amaya Duran to open the third before she walked Karrlauhn Deas and gave up an RBI single to Marlow.

Leal issued another walk to the next hitter, Compian before Garner’s two-run single gave the Longhorns the 3-1 lead.

Leal’s complete game loss featured four runs on two hits, 10 strikeouts, four walks and two hit batsmen.

George Ranch scored its final run of the night in the fifth inning on walks to Compian and S.J. Housel, an infield ground out by Garner and a passed ball.
