Taye McWilliams ran for 99 yards and scored two touchdowns to help Lamar Consolidated get a 38-15 win over Clements on Thursday night at Alvin ISD’s Freedom Field in the 2019 season opener.
McWilliams had only four carries in the game, but also had a 56-yard touchdown reception.
McWilliams’ first score of the game came on a 74-yard touchdown run to put Lamar up 7-0 in the first quarter. Kicker Jose Ortiz made a 35-yard field goal to put the Mustangs up by 10 early in the second quarter.
Stanley Tucker returned a punt for a touchdown as the Mustangs jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead.
Quarterback B.J. Harris ran for a 10-yard score in the third quarter. Lamar’s lead grew to 31-7 later in the quarter when Harris threw a screen pass to running back Rayshawn Glover, who took it 74 yards for the touchdown.
Harris threw for 153 yards while rushing for 102 yards.
The Mustangs racked up 400 total yards in the game, including 247 rushing yards. The Lamar defense gave up 320 yards to the Rangers, including 167 rushing yards. Linebacker Julian Anzaldua led the team with three tackles for loss.
Lamar (1-0) will travel to Hopper Field in Freeport to face Brazoswood next Friday night.
