KATY – The District 11-5A wrestling championship featured four teams from Lamar Consolidated ISD. After the dust settled at the Merrell Center in Katy: Foster, Fulshear, Lamar Consolidated and Terry all sent wrestlers to the regional championships this week.

The Region III-5A championships will take place at Anna High School, which is located north of Dallas.

The Lady Falcons finished second overall in the team standing behind Katy Paetow (110 points) with 104 points. Lamar Consolidated finished sixth (24 points) and Terry was seventh (4).

The Foster boys finished third in the team standings with 105 points, followed by Fulshear (55) in sixth, Lamar Consolidated in seventh (54) and Terry in eighth (51.5).

Falcons rise

The Falcons had another banner district meet with 12 wrestlers advancing to the next round including five gold medals.

For the girls, freshman Jeannie Hawkins earned the 95-pound division district title without a match.

Madison Canales took first place in the 119-pound division. Canales beat Lamar Consoldiated’s Star Medina by fall (0:44) and New Waverly by fall (0:26) en route to the title.

In the 165-pound division, Molly Ashcrafts earned the gold. Ashcrafts defeated Huntsville’s Randaiza Bryant by major decision (11-3) and New Waverly’s Bethany Brock by fall (3:05).

Mia Sands finished second in the 110-pound weight class with a win over New Waverly’s Kendal Noel by fall (0:23) before a finals loss to Paetow’s Cameron Jimenez.

Taylor Rich suffered an injury in the 215-pound finals against Waller’s Kirsten McBride. Despite that fact, Rich finished the match, losing by fall (1:51).

In the 138-pound weight class, Andrea Rivera defeated Fulshear’s Antonina Ocanas by fall (0:19) before a loss to New Waverly’s Bailey Mayrant. The Lady Falcon rebounded with a win over Paetow’s Zanya Walker by fall (1:08) in third place.

Diana Amira finished fourth in the 128-pound weight class with a consolation semifinals win over New Waverly’s Skylee Espinoza by fall (0:29).

In the boys’ events, Corbin Roy won the 120-pound division and Khoi Hoang won the 126-pound division.

Roy defeated Katy Paetow’s Jarrett Cox by fall (1:50) and New Waverly’s Charlie Dipprey by fall (2:23) to earn the district crown.

Hoang won the 126-pound division with three fall victories over Fulshear’s Jacob Facundo (0:43), Huntsville’s Latravion Agu (0:28) and Waller’s Samuel Massey (0:46).

In the 138-pound weight class, Xavier Hernandez beat New Waverly’s Charlie Drane by fall (1:36) in the third-place match to earn a spot at regionals.

Tyler Geades earned third place in the 170-pound weight class after a loss to New Waverly’s Vance Daffin by fall (1:24).

In the 195-pound division, John Tanner Dulin opened the district meet with a win over Waller’s Miguel Huerta by fall (3:01) before a loss to Paetow’s Jeremiah Marquez (fall, 1:30). But Dulin rebounded with a win over Fulshear’s David Cardenas by fall (2:00) in the third-place match.

Joshua Martinez finished third in the 220-pound division after earning a consolation semifinals victory over Huntsville’s Mason Black by fall (0:38) and Paetow’s Jason Welch by fall (1:15).

Brandon Mesa was fourth in the 182-pound weight class after a win over New Waverly’s Ian Nash in the consolation semifinals by decision (8-4).

Alex Castronovo earned four points for the Falcons in the 160-pound weight class with a quarterfinals win over Waller’s Morgan Gilley by fall (1:12).

In the 285-pound division, Ivan Zamora finished fourth — earning a win over Waller’s Mike Vargas by fall (1:49) in the consolation semifinals.

Ranger pride

Travis LaChapelle earned gold for Terry in Katy. LaChapelle defeated Huntsville’s Noah Dierksheide by technical fall (19-4) in the semifinals and Lamar Consolidated's Elijah Willis in the finals by fall (3:40).

David Velasquez and Joshua Martinez both finished third in the 145-pound and 285-pound weight class respectively.

Velasquez fought through the consolation bracket to get to regionals, beat New Waverly’s Nathan Hughes by fall (2:26) and Waller’s Keaton Gleason by fall (1:43).

Martinez won his opening match over Waller’s Mike Vargas by fall (0:18) before a loss in the semifinals. He rebounded to beat Foster’s Ivan 

Zamora by fall (1:16) in the third-place match. 

In the 126-pound division, Jonathan Urbina earned a consolation win over Fulshear’s Jacob Facundo by fall (1:13). 

Janie Guerrero represented the Lady Rangers, finishing fourth in the 102-pound weight class. 

Mustangs rise up 

Lamar Consolidated had four boys competing at the district meet and three advanced to regionals. 

Elijah Willis and Rodney Munoz each finished second in their weight class. Willis defeated New Waverly’s Davin Sockwell by fall (1:39) and Fulshear’s Dylan Willis (0:12) to reach the 106-pound weight class finals, where Willis lost to Terry’s Travis LaChapelle. 

Munoz beat New Waverly’s Nathan Hughes by fall (1:54) to earn a spot in the 145-pound finals before losing to Paetow’s John Abney by fall (2:36). 

In the 152-pound weight class, Nicholas Barron finished third with a consolation semifinals win over Fulshear’s Aidan Ligorria by fall (1:48) and Huntsville’s Cody Kuhns by fall (3:32) in the third-place match. 

Chris Castillo was fourth in the 160-pound division, after earning a consolation semifinals win over Foster’s Alex Castronovo by fall (1:23). 

For the Lady Mustangs, Melody Ramos earned a spot at regionals. Ramos earned a consolation semifinals win over Fulshear’s Kassandra Solis by fall (2:38) and a fall win over Foster’s Diana Amira (2:48) in the third-place match. 

Comfort Eking finished fourth in the 148-pound weight class after opening the district tournament with a win over Ruby Ventura of Foster by fall (1:17). 

Charged up 

The Fulshear boys had competitors in nine weight classes and the top finisher was Seth Smith in the 220-pound weight class. Smith finished second after defeating Paetow’s Jason Welch by fall (2:51) in the semifinals before losing to Waller Alexis Lopez by fall (5:20). 

Mitchell McBride and Adrian Robert Torres both finished third to advance to the regionals. McBride earned the district bronze in the 132-pound weight class, earning two fall victories over Foster’s Mathew Maravilla (2:38) in the quarterfinals and New Waverly’s Cooper Lucas in the third-place match (3:59). 

Torres opened his tournament in the 182-pound weight class by beating Foster’s Brandon Mesa by fall (1:19). He finished his run by beating Mesa again in the third-place match by fall (5:11). 

Dylan Willis placed fourth in the 106-pound division after a loss to Huntsville’s Noah Dierksheide by fall (0:48). 

In the 195-pound division, David Cardenas earned a consolation semifinals win over Waller’s Miguel Huerta by fall (1:15) before finishing fourth with a loss to Foster’s John tanner Dulin by fall (2:00). 

For the Fulshear girls, Kasandra Solis and Antonina Ocanas presented Fulshear in the girls 128-pound and 138-pound divisions respectively.
