Two District 24-5A heavyweights squared off Friday night at The Nest when Foster played host to upset-minded Manvel.
The Lady Falcons made sure no upset was forthcoming with a 6-0 victory.
Foster came out of the gate on fire and three minutes into the match found the net when Hannah Bolin passed to Angelica Bochus, who sent a screamer into the goal.
Foster kept the pressure on Manvel’s defense and 13 minutes later Marin Stephan ripped a shot from 35 yards out to make it 2-0.
Only four minutes later it was 3-0 when Abrie Morales linked up with Bochus, who earned a brace for her effort.
Manvel managed only a single shot on Foster in the first half and was forced to defend its half most of the time.
With nine minutes left on the clock, Bolin set up Kaitlyn Walsh, who struck for a 4-0 Foster lead at the half.
The second half saw a more even affair as Manvel looked to claw its way back into the game. Bolin was the provider once again when she put a long ball into the back post and Jenay Garcia buried it for a 5-0 lead.
The game grew chippy as both teams fought for every 50/50 ball and battled to gain possession. Manvel got another shot off and was awarded a late corner they couldn’t capitalize on late. With just over two minutes remaining, Bochus hit a ball on an angle to the far post to finish off her hat trick on the night.
The Falcon’s midfield controlled possession with crisp, accurate passes and dictated the pace of the game all night.
And the stalwart defensive unit limited the opposition to single digits in shots and corners for Foster’s 6th straight district shutout.
Foster will have an all-important match against Angleton next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. before playing Terry on Friday to wrap up the first half of district play.
