Needville senior running back/defensive back Walker Warncke won the online poll to be named the Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week for Week 10.
Warncke won the poll and will be entered into the running to be name the Texas high school football player of the year.
Warncke was nominated after rushing for 278 yards on 28 carries and six touchdowns in Neeville’s 56-49 win over Bay City on Oct. 30. He also had 10 tackles on defense, forced a fumble and had a pass breakup.
The other entrants for the Mr. Texas Football award so far include Llano quarterback Case Kuykendall, Stephenville running back Kason Phillips, Albany running back Coy LeFevre and Port Lavaca Calhoun quarterback Jarius Stewart.
Each week, fans are given a chance to vote for the player of the week on TexasFootball.com. At the end of the high school football season, 10 finalists are named. Fans can then cast their vote as to who should be named Mr. Texas Football. The winner of the 2020 Mr. Texas Football Award will be announced prior to the Texas Bowl, which is on Dec. 31 at 7 p.m. at NRG Stadium in Houston.
Warncke becomes the second Blue Jay player that will be nominated for the award, as running back Ashton Stredick was nominated in 2019.
The last Mr. Texas Football winner from Fort Bend County was Lamar Consolidated great Jacquizz Rodgers back in 2007.
