District games

Travis 10, Elkins 6

Junior Riann Ruiz led the way for the Lady Tigers in their District 20-6A opener against Elkins.

Ruiz went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.

Junior Mady Leighton, senior Noemi Cortez and senior Carissa Cedillo each had two hits.

Cortez had a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Sophomore Rachel Ybarra picked up the win, allowing five earned runs on nine hits. She struck out two and walked one.

George Ranch 9, Brazoswood 5

The Longhorns opened District 23-6A with a win against a team that last year reached the regional quarterfinals.

Terry 17, Marshall 0

The Rangers bum-rushed the Lady Buffs in their District 24-5A opener with 17 runs in the first two innings to run-rule Marshall this past week.

Brandi Juarez went to 2-for-2 with a triple, run scored, two RBIs and a walk.

Giselle Villarreal and Elizabeth Torres each had two RBIs. Villarreal had three runs scored.

Larissa Armendariz and Torres each had a double.

Terry drew 14 walks and had only two strikeouts.

Alex Howard was perfect through three innings, striking out seven without a walk or hit.

Non-district games

Travis

The Lady Tigers opened their 2019 season with a 5-0 loss to Clear Falls before traveling to the Katy ISD tournament.

Travis went 3-3 at the tournament before starting District 20-6A play last week against Elkins.

The Lady Tigers picked up wins against Spring (5-3), Seven Lakes (9-0) and Cy-Lakes (3-2) at the KISD Tournament.

George Ranch

The Longhorns opened their season with a 2-5 record at the Katy Tournament.

George Ranch started 0-5 but picked up wins over Katy Paetow (5-3) and Dulles (10-0).

Foster

The Lady Falcons went 3-4 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic Tournament to start the season.

Foster’s wins came against Rockwall (12-2), Robinson (4-2) and San Antonio Warren (4-3).

The Haynie Spirit Tournament was rained out over this previous weekend.

Lamar Consolidated

The Lady Mustangs went 3-3 at the Rice Consolidated Tournament to start the season.

Lamar Consolidated picked up wins against Louise (13-1), Rice Consolidated (8-1) and Ganado (8-0).

Terry

The Lady Rangers opened their season with a 14-4 loss to Needville.

But Terry rebounded with 3-3 mark at the Rice Consolidated Tournament.

The Lady Rangers picked up wins against the host Rice Consolidated (12-1), Smithville (5-4) and Ganado (11-0).

Fulshear

The Chargers opened their season at Bellville with a 4-3 loss.

Fulshear played in the Katy ISD tournament, going 3-3 with wins over Cy-Falls (9-1), Seven Lakes (4-1) and Travis (8-6).

The Chargers also played in the FB Christian Tournament, going 4-1 with wins over Cy-Park (19-3), The Woodlands Christian Academy (4-1), San Antonio Holy Cross (8-6) and Van Vleck (5-2).

Needville

The Lady Jays opened their season against Terry with a 14-4 road win.

Needville went 2-4-1 at the Katy ISD Tournament with wins over Katy Taylor (8-5) and Boling (6-1).

The Lady Jays won a road game at Episcopal, 7-3, before going to the La Grange Tournament.

Needville went 2-3 at the La Grange Tournament with wins over Crockett (16-0) and Ganado (16-1).

East Bernard

The Brahmarettes lost a close contest to Columbus, 4-3, to open their 2019 season.

In the Rice Consolidated Tournament, East Bernard went 6-1 with wins over Lamar Consolidated (6-1), Rice Consolidated (12-0), Louise (10-1), Tidehaven (5-4) and Terry (3-1).

The Brahmarettes lost a road game at Bellville (3-0) before playing in the Sweeny Tournament.

East Bernard went 1-3 with a win over Wharton.

Brazos

The Cougarettes opened their season at the Rice Consolidated Tournament, going 2-4 with a win over Smithville (5-3) and a 12-0 win against a non-varsity opponent.

Brazos lost a non-district game at Bellville Faith Academy, 7-3.
