Running of the Longhorns

George Ranch boys cross country team, Jacob Curtis, Forrest Ancisco, Eli Greene, John Moore, Travis Morrey, Phoenix Tafoya and Cameron Chretien ran the Dawson Early Bird Meet Saturday in Pearland. The Longhorns finished first overall with Curtis taking third place individually.

While volleyball and football have attracted the most attention during the restart of high school athletics during the COVID-19 pandemic, cross country’s delayed start began this past weekend with three LCISD teams in races.

George Ranch competed in the Dawson Early Bird meet on Saturday in Pearland.

The boys’ team finished first in the Section 2 race 33 points ahead of Fort Bend Ridge Point with 49 points.

Senior Jacob Curtis was third overall with a time of 11 minutes and 3.7 seconds.

The Longhorns arrived in a herd with the team placing sixth through 10th place after Curtis.

Senior Forrest Ancisco was sixth (11:08.7), followed by senior Eli Greene (11:11.9), junior John Moore (11:20.3), Travis Moorey (11:24.5) and Phoenix Tafoya (11:38.7).

The George Ranch girls were third in the Section 1 race. The Longhorns had 75 points overall with Haley Harkrider running second with a time of 12:21.0.

Sophomore Madison Haldiman (11th, 12:58.9) and sophomore Ava Curtis (114th, 3:04.1) recorded top-15 finishes.

Fulshear ran at the Brenham Hillacious Invitational, and the Charger boys finished second overall in the black division.

The Chargers had eight runs that finished in the top 25 overall, including Patrick McCann that was ninth with a time of 18:49.80.

Harrison Steen was 11th at 19:09.00, and Tyler Browning was close behind in 12th (19:13.70).

Zakary Sury (14th, 19:44.10), Edward Tongee (17th, 20:09.30), and Ashton Oxford (19th, 20:20.50) finished in the top 20.

The Fulshear girls were third in their standings with state-runner Briana Roberson checking in fifth place with a time of 21:30.20.

Angelita Perret was 15th with a time of 24:19.80 and Mikaela Lopez was 16th at 24:41.80.

The Foster girls were fifth overall in the Run the Dog Pound Invitational Varsity B race at Magnolia High School in a field that included all 6A programs.

Mickayla Tosch and Kaitlyn Walsh were in the top 10 with runs of 13:02.78 and 13:11.77 to finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.

Caden Cunningham was the top finisher for the boys with a time of 10:28.00 to place second overall.

Tigers on the run

Travis was third in the Varsity A race of the Run the Dog Pound Invitational with Ian Price taking the top spot with a time of 10:42.70 while Mason Sollenberger was 10th with a time of 12:53.69.

Brett Arnold finished 18th with a time of 13:59.60.

For the Lady Tigers, Brooke Collins (13th, 15:29.12), Bianca Briones (16th, 16:03.46) and K’Lynn Carrington (19th, 16:36.60) were in the top 20.
