HUNTSVILLE — Foster High School wasn’t able to get either team to the state meet after strong showings at district.

But Monday’s run at Kate Barr-Ross Memorial Park in Huntsville can only be described as successful with Foster advancing two runners to the state meet form the Region III-5A championships.

Senior sisters Maddie Ellis and Macie Ellis will represent the Lady Falcons at the UIL 5A State Championships after both finished in the top 15 in the regional run.

“This is huge,” Foster girls cross country coach Julie Yeager said. “We haven’t had anyone from Foster at state since we were in 4A and they only ran two miles.

“Just to have our young girls see this success is incredible. They have all worked very hard this year and had a great season.”

Maddie was fourth overall with a time of 19 minutes and 12.6 seconds in the 5,000-meter run and Macie finished 15th with a time of 20:10.5.

Both girls indicated the same sentiment about going to state: they are going there with their best friend.

The Lady Falcons landed two more runners in the top 35 with freshman Kaitlyn Walsh in 28th (20:47.3) and Mickayla Tosch in 35th place (21:04.2).

The Lady Falcons finished sixth overall in the team standings.

For the boys, junior Caden Cunningham just missed a ticket to state in 24th place with a time of 17:13.2. Freshman Caleb Anthony finished in 82nd place with a time of 18:28.1.

Terry’s lone representative Yosiel Garcia finished in 158th place with a time of 20:42.9.

The 2019 UIL state meet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
