There wasn’t any question about the level of competition that was brought together after realignment in District 24-5A.

The only question was whether the District 24-4A track and field meet would serve as defacto state championship preview this past weekend at Angleton High School’s Wildcat Stadium.

The field didn’t disappoint with first-place finishes from Manvel on both sides and Marshall finishing second for the boys while Hightower took the silver for the girls.

But the Lamar Consolidated teams were still able to shine with Foster finishing in the top five in both team standings.

The boys finished third with 110 points and the girls finished fifth with 78 points.

Foster finished with 16 top-three finishes, including six gold medals.

Madelene Maves finished in first place in the girls pole vault with a mark of eight feet.

Macie Ellis won the girls 3,200-meter run with a time of 12-minutes and 23.95-seconds, followed by Madelyn Ellis in third place with a time of 13:08.60.

The Ellis’ both finished in the same spot in the 1,600-meter run, too.

Macie won the event with a time of 5:38.49 and Madelyn finished second with a time of 4:39.05.

Collin Williams won the boys 800-meter dash with a time of 1:55.18.

Williams and Christopher Cobbin finished in the top two spots in the boys 400-meter dash.

Cobbin won the event with a time of 48.93 and Williams was second at 49.28.

Caden Cunningham won the boys 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:33.41.

Cunningham was second in the boys 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:31.13.

Amryn Williams finished second in the boys triple jump with a mark of 32-10.00.

Stan Nnanna finished second in the boys high jump at 6-1.

Hayden Henderson was second in the boys pole vault with a mark of 12-6.

Ife Chris-Rotimi took the district silver in the girls 800-meter dash with a time of 2:19.40.

Lamar Consolidated had five top-five finishes with three silver medals.

Lauren Spencer posted a mark of 34-2 in the shot put for second place.

Faith Ojualape’s throw of 116-2 was good for second place in the discus.

Daniel Anomneze finished second in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.63.

Terry’s top finisher was Kolby Sumlin in the discus. Sumlin’s toss marked at 136 feet.

The top-four finishers in each event from District 24-5A will head to the area meet with District 23-5A on April 18 at Hall Stadium.
