MISSOURI CITY — The Elkins Knights outscored the Rams 23-5 in the fourth quarter to get a convincing 66-37 win over Mayde Creek in their 6A bi-district playoff game Saturday at Hopson Fieldhouse in Missouri City.  

Elkins will face Houston Memorial in the second round next week after the Mustangs beat Westbury 62-51.

Sophomore guard Chris Johnson scored 10 first-half points for Elkins, including two three-pointers. But Mayde Creek sophomore guard Angel Sonnier connected on two threes of his own, putting the Rams up 15-10 early.

However, the Knights held the Rams to only five points in the second quarter while senior guard Josh Fanuiel scored 10 of his 18 points in the period to put Elkins up at the half, 29-20.

Johnson scored eight more points in the second half, while Fanuiel added six. Both finished with 18 points for Elkins, which moved to 16-1.

Sonnier led Mayde Creek with 15 points. The Rams end their season with a 12-9 record.
