Top 10

George Ranch junior Avery Shimaitis spikes the ball during last year’s Battle of the Brazos tournament.

Fort Bend Ridge Point started the season as the only ranked team from Fort Bend County in the Texas Girls Coaches Association Volleyball poll among the two larger classifications.

That fact lasted a week when another team from District 20-6A joined the 6A top 10.

George Ranch has started the season at 4-0 and move up to No. 6 in the rankings.

The Longhorns have defeated Katy Tompkins (3-1), Angleton (3-0), Bellaire Episcopal (3-1) and Houston Memorial (3-2) over a week of action.

Ridge Point had their taste of official action on Saturday with a win over Klein (3-0) and a loss to Bridgeland (1-3).

The two teams’ first district contest will come in the second week of October in Missouri City.

Another Fort Bend County team remains at the top of the TGCA rankings. Needville is the No. 1 team in Class 4A with a 17-0 mark.

The Lady Jays swept Columbia and Sweeny this past week.

Needville will have a game against La Marque and Stafford this week before facing two 6A programs, Kempner and Clements, during a dual meet on Saturday.

Former Needville assistant coach Alyssa Brown is in charger of the Lady Cougars’ squad.

East Bernard improved to 10-3 and 3-0 in District 24-3A with wins over Van Vleck and Hitchcock last week.

The Brahmarettes have not re-entered the 3A top 25 even though East Bernard’s three losses came against 4A programs.
