Region III-6A

Dulles-Jersey Village

Playoff brackets can be a double-edged sword. A district champion in theory would get one of the easiest routes through the early part of the playoffs but not all districts are created equal; case in point, District 17-6A.

No. 10 District 20-6A champion Dulles Lady Vikings will go from facing the No. 4 seed from District 19-6A to facing the No. 2 seed from 17-6A, No. 8 Jersey Village.

The Lady Falcons were the district runner to the No. 1 team in 6A, Cypress Creek.

Dulles is hoping to break a streak of area losses to Cy-Fair ISD, Cy-Creek beat the Lady Vikings last year in Round 2 while Jersey Village knocked out Dulles in 2019.

The Lady Vikings started the playoffs strong last week with a 65-39 win over Katy, knocking down 12 three-pointers in the victory. Junior Nya Threatt led Dulles in scoring and she is averaging the team-high in points per game at 20.

The Dulles-Jersey Village game is one of two Top-10 match-ups along with No. 5 South Grand Prairie and No. 9 Allen. There are two additional Top 25 match-ups this week in the Houston area: No. 19 Clear Springs against No. 24 Atascocita and No. 20 Tomball Memorial against No. 21 Spring Westfield.

The Dulles-Jersey Village game is set for Saturday at Delmar Fieldhouse at 3 p.m.

Ridge Point-Houston Heights

The Lady Panthers pulled out a minor upset last week, knocking off the higher seed from District 19-6A, Seven Lakes. Now, Ridge Point must get another upset win against No. 14 Houston Heights.

The Lady Bulldogs beat Cypress Ridge 80-45 in the bi-distrct round to face Ridge Point. Seniors Tierra Simon and Gracelynn Alvarez led the way for Heights last week, the pair combined for nearly 50 points. Additionally, both shot over 60% from the field.

Simon collected a double-double with 13 rebounds including eight on the defensive end, she also added four blocks and three steals.

A win would be the second-straight season Ridge Point has reached Round 3. The game is set for Saturday at Delmar Fieldhouse at  7 p.m.

Region III-5A

Foster-Barbers Hill

The Lady Falcons coasted to a victory in the bi-district round but the area round contest will not be as easy against Barbers Hill.

The Lady Eagles were the second-place finisher in District 21-5A and Barbers Hill beat La Porte 59-56 for a bi-district victory.

Barbers Hill is seeking its first trip to the regional quarterfinals in two seasons.

The lone comparison between the two teams is each played Marshall at home. Barbers Hill won a home game 71-13 while Foster beat the Lady Buffs 100-21 at home.

The only team in 21-5A comparable to Foster is No. 15 Beaumont United, Barbers Hill lost to the 2-15 champion by a combined 49 points over two games. The Lady Eagles were able to close the gap in the second contest to 53-38.

Barbers Hill will look to keep Foster in single digits each quarter, the Lady Eagles have won only two games of their 18 victories this season while allowing their opponent to score more than 40 points.

The Region III-5A area contest will take place on Saturday at Butler Fieldhouse at 5 p.m.

Lamar Consolidated-Beaumont United

The quality of the Lamar Consolidated High School girls basketball team will get its first major test outside of Foster Wednesday in East Houston. The Lady Mustangs will face No. 15 Beaumont United.

The Lady Timberwolves are the District 21-5A champion during the 2020-21 season. United is also undefeated outright this season, standing at 17-0.

The Lady Timberwolves seek to match their deepest play of run, a trip to the regional quarterfinals two years ago.

The Region III-5A contest will take place on Saturday at 4 p.m. on the campus of CE King HS (New Campus Gym).

The Fulshear Chargers missed Manvel in LCISD’s 5A district for two seasons while the Chargers were playing in 4A from 2018-2020. But the Chargers girls basketball team will have a full look at the District 22-5A champion Wednesday in Missouri City.

Fulshear has already made history with the program’s first 5A playoff victory last week, now the Chargers seek to break new ground with their first ticket to the regional quarterfinals.

But Manvel will be a tough challenge, the Lady Mavericks have lost five total games during the 2020-21, only one thus far has come against a 5A program.

The Lady Mavericks’ program has the experience to succeed, Manvel has reached at least the regional quarterfinals 10-straight seasons.

The Region III-5A area contest will take place Saturday at 7 p.m. in Fort Bend ISD’s Hopson Fieldhouse.

Region III-3A

East Bernard-Pollock Central

The Barrettes hope to continue their historic run this week against Pollok Central. The Lady Bulldogs have won their district title the past few seasons but Pollok Central hasn’t made it out of the first-round game since 2015.

Pollok Central defeated Nacogdoches Central Heights in the bi-distrstrict round 56-36.

The game will take place on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Cougar Gym at College Station High School.
