Houston Astros star Alex Bregman is expected to play in the first two games of the Sugar Land Skeeters’ home series against El Paso at Constellation Field.
The slugging third baseman is scheduled to continue his rehab assignment by playing Thursday and Friday. He played for Sugar Land on Monday and Tuesday in games against Oklahoma City, going 0-for-6 with two walks and scored a run.
The Skeeters return home following a 12-game road trip in which they went 7-5 to remain in first place in the East Division of Triple-A West.
De La Cruz sent to Miami in trade
In a move to bolster the Astros’ bullpen, the team traded Skeeters outfielder Bryan De La Cruz and Houston right-handed pitcher Austin Pruitt to the Miami Marlins for reliever Yimi Garcia.
De La Cruz was hitting .324 for the Skeeters with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs, along with a OPS average of .880.
Garcia has a 2.63 ERA in 51.1 innings pitched this season with the Marlins.
Garcia called up after Mariners trade
Infielder Robel Garcia was called up to the Astros from the Skeeters after Houston traded infielder Abraham Toro and pitcher Joe Smith to Seattle for relievers Kendall Graveman and Rafael Montero on Tuesday.
