A Katy jewelry store owner who was on the lam after allegedly ripping off customers has been arrested in Florida, authorities reporting.
Authorities had been searching for Santiago Mora, owner of ALKU Jewelers in Katy, prior his arrest on June 29.
Mora was wanted by authorities for allegedly defrauding jewelry store customers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in high-end diamonds and watches, investigators said.
Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office’s law enforcement partners at the Houston FBI office reported that FBI agents in Miami arrested Mora on unrelated federal charges.
FBCSO Det. Jesse Murphy was the lead investigator. He said he received numerous tips in collaboration with Fort Bend Crime Stoppers, which helped lead to Mora’s capture.
“I applaud the excellent police work of Det. Murphy and the FBI,” said Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan. “The result of this investigation reminds us that we’ve got work to do.”
Anyone who believes they were scammed by Mora is urged to call Det. Murphy of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office at 281-341-3815.
