Walter E. Herrera, age 69, formerly of Wharton transcended to his final resting place on Thursday, March 25th, 2021.
A service of remembrance will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday, April 1st, 2021 at Caballero Ryder Funeral Home with interment following at San Francisco Cemetery in East Bernard, TX. Visitation will be held from 3:00PM to 7:00PM on Wednesday, March 31st, 2021 at Caballero Ryder Funeral Home.
Walter was born in Wharton, TX on May 16th, 1951.Walter was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, who served in the Vietnam War. Walter loved being a Marine and came home with many stories to tell. Once he returned, started his own company working as a stone mason. Although Walter loved being a Marine, there was nothing he loved more than being a father and grandfather. He would spend countless hours talking, making jokes and playing with his kids and grandkids. Walter was also a lover of music. At any time of the day you could catch him blasting cumbia and classic western music.
Walter is survived by his daughters Melinda Elida and Hilda Evelina Herrera as well as previous partner Hilda Esmeralda Moya. He is also survived by brothers and sisters Betty Wicke and her husband Danny, Joe Perales and his wife Margie, Diane Salcido and late husband Felipe, Lupe Aguilar and husband Tom, Mary Montalvo and husband Daniel, Jesús Herrera, Ralph Herrera and wife Irma, Tony Herrera Dunbar and husband Sam, Ben Herrera and wife Penny, Lee Herrera and wife Gail, Minga Herrera-Fernandez and husband Joe. As well as his beloved granddaughter, Laylah Mercedes Carter and grandson, Erik Emmeterio Flores. Walter also had many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Emet and Mercedes Herrera, brothers Canuto living wife Janie, Pete living wife Lupe Perales, Frank, and Johnny Herrera and sister, Vicky Salcido.
