Sydney J. Anders

Sydney J. Anders, 89, of Needville, Texas, passed away on August 7, 2019 in Rosenberg, Texas. He was born on February 19, 1930 in Ammannsville, Texas to Emil and Mary (Vacek) Anders. He was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Needville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7067, served on the Church Parish Council, served 30+ years as Advertising Chairman for the Bazaar and was proud to sell meat at the pit for the Fairchild Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. He was also a member of SPJST Lodge 81, Catholic Life, KJZT Family Life, and Woodmen Life. Sydney retired from Kraft Foods after 36 years where he was known by many as “The Cheese Man.” Prior to Kraft, he was proud to have been a Houston Police Officer. Sydney’s hobbies included caring for his numerous citrus and pecan trees, working on his collection of antique tractors and listening to polka music, all with his grandkids and dog, Big Boy, by his side. If anyone stopped by, he was ready to give a tour of his tractors and send you off with a wave and a bag of fresh fruit. This loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend will truly be missed.

In addition to his parents, Sydney is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Margie Anders; and sister-in-law, Margaret Anders.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Olga Brazda Anders; daughter, Barbara Smolik and her husband, Gary; daughter, Stephanie Webb; brother, Ivan Anders; grandchildren, Chase Smolik, Ashlen Smolik Lenderman and husband, John, Jacinda Webb and fiancé, Taylor Fletcher, Jacob Webb and Jailyn Webb; along with extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2019 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Needville.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 12, 2019 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Needville with Father Marty Pham officiating. Burial to take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery (Foerster School Road) in Needville.

Pallbearers will include Michael Webb, Chase Smolik, Jacob Webb, John Lenderman, Taylor Fletcher, Patrick Anders, Jeff Anders and Brian Baranowski.

Honorary pallbearers will include his godsons Jody Brazda, Andy Brazda, Michael Brazda and Clarence Brazda, Jr.
