Rev. Robert Lee Banks, Jr.

Rev. Robert Lee Banks, Jr., son of Robert Lee and Hazel Banks, Sr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 13, 1949.

Rev. Banks graduated from Lincoln High School in Marrero, Louisiana.

On June 16, 1990, Rev. Banks was united in marriage to Joyce M. Hart in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Rev. Banks accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Luke Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana at eight years old.

He later united with Second Historic Baptist in New Orleans, Louisiana followed by St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church of Marrero, Louisiana where he served on the Deacon Board, became an ordained minister under Rev. Dr. Wilbert Tross, Jr. and the Southeastern Regional Director of the Prison Ministry.

Upon relocating to Richmond, Texas in 2006, he joined The Fort Bend Church in Sugar Land, Texas where he served as an Associate Minister, continued his passion for leading the Prison Ministry, taught noonday Bible Study, youth Bible Study, and Sunday School.

He also was a member of the Pastor’s Arms.

Throughout the pandemic, Rev. Banks also spearheaded a weekly family Bible Study.

During his leisure time, Rev. Banks was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, and he thoroughly enjoyed cooking his adored Louisiana-based family recipes such as homemade pecan candy.

Rev. Banks professional career encompassed holding positions such as CEO of his father’s company, Banks & Sons Trucking Service, Inc., and Superintendent at Vern Keeler & Associates, Hamp’s Construction, LLC. and a Pro Desk Associate at Home Depot.

Post-retirement, he became a licensed transportation operator with the Fort Bend Independent School District.

Rev. Robert Lee Banks, Jr., a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather was called to his eternal rest by the Lord on Saturday, May 22, 2021, in Richmond, Texas, at the age of 71.

He leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Joyce Banks of Richmond, Texas; two daughters, Sandy (Rene’) Banks Phillips of La Place, Louisiana and Courtney Banks of Richmond, Texas; two sons, Robert Lee (Celeste) Banks, III of Los Angeles, California and DeShannon (Tamika) Hart of Manvel, Texas; twin brother, Arthur Lee (Cynthia) Banks of Harvey, Louisiana; 5 grandchildren, Donald Lee (Meagan) Phillips, III, Alyssa Phillips, Ethan Banks, Lauryn Banks and McKinzie Hart; one great grandchild on the way; one Goddaughter, Karli Jacson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Rev. Banks was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Hazel Banks, Sr. and his brother, J.C. Franklin Banks.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at The Fort Bend Church, in Sugar Land, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at The Fort Bend Church, in Sugar Land, Texas, with Rev. Byron C. Stevenson officiating.

Interment in Davis-Greenlawn Cemetery, in Rosenberg, Texas.

The family requests flowers be sent to Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway.
