Owen Otto Borchardt, 81, of Damon, passed away peacefully at his home on April 16, 2019. He was born in Harlingen on March 14,, 1938.
After his high school graduation from Harlingen High School in 1956, Owen enlisted in the US Army where he served 2 years active duty and 4 years inactive duty. In 1959 he came to Damon to visit an army friend and met his future wife on a blind date. Following their marriage on November 5, 1960, Owen made Damon his permanent home. He was a truck driver for a Texaco gas distributor for 19 years and for Imperial Sugar for 25 years.
Owen was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and spending time in the Texas hill country every chance he got. His most joyous moments were those when his grandchildren were around, whom he cherished with all of his heart. His love for his family will never be forgotten.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margie Elster Borchardt, a son, Jeffrey Otto Borchardt and wife Mireya of Bay City, a daughter, Audrey Kay Borchardt Lopez and husband Larry of Rosenberg, grandson, Tyson Lopez, granddaughters, Farren Lopez, Bianca Borchardt and Sophie Borchardt. Owen is also survived by one brother, John Borchardt of Burnet. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Alma Borchardt, two sisters, Beverly Brown and Sandra Puckett and one brother Gene Borchardt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Davis Greenlawn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon until service time on Saturday in the Chapel at Davis Greenlawn Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Borchardt, Brian Borchardt, Larry Lopez, Tyson Lopez, David Elster and Rodney Elster. Honorary Pallbearers are Arnold (Butch) Elster, Allen Elster and Kirby Schultz.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First English Lutheran Church, Damon, Texas or any charity of your choice.
