Owen Jeske

A Memorial Service for Owen Jeske, 82, of Richmond, TX, is set for 11 AM Monday, November 29, 2021, at First Baptist Church, 502 S 5th Street, Richmond, TX 77469, with Rev. Ryan Chandler and Rev. John Lockhart officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 — 11 AM Monday at the church, for one hour preceding the Memorial Service.

Owen Jeske went to his heavenly home on November 20, 2021, with his family at his side. He was born July 13, 1939, in Needville, TX, to parents Willie and Lillie Eismann Jeske, and he grew up there on the family farm.

Owen graduated from Needville High School and Wharton County Jr. College, then joined the National Guard shortly afterward.

After marrying Virgie Gonyo on September 8, 1962, he began a career in home construction, working over the years for builders Franklin Wittneben, Herman Nichter, and Nelson Bass, taking great pride in the quality of his work.

He then went to work for Fort Bend Telephone Company, now Consolidated Communications, where he retired in 2002.

Owen was a member of First Baptist Church in Richmond, where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, and on various committees through the years. He also coached Little League Baseball. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening, feeding birds, and watching God’s creatures from his front porch. The joy of his life was his grandchildren and seeing them grow up on his family farm.

Owen is survived by his wife, Virgie Gonyo Jeske; two sons, Randal Jeske (Julie) and Brett Jeske; three grandchildren, Sydney Jeske, Gabe Jeske, and David Jeske; two sisters, Elaine Matula (Roy) and Ann Chambers; nephew, Lee Matula; and nieces, Vanessa Matula and Jennifer Bolch (Devan).

Memorials may be given in his memory to First Baptist Church of Richmond, 502 S 5th St, Richmond, TX 77469, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at stjude.org
