Mike Gilman, an avid outdoors man and photographer, died March 29, 2021, with his loving wife, Shar, by his side.
Mike was born May 22, 1945, in Marietta, GA. He spent his childhood growing up surrounded by his sister and brother and extended family. Mike attended Lamar High School in Houston. He also proudly served his country 4 years in the US Air Force.
His endless passion for the outdoors took Mike on many hunting and fishing adventures with both family and friends. Whether it was Texas, Louisiana, Florida, or Colorado, Mike never returned without a new story that all would be hearing on repeat. His many trips to the Hajdik wildlife ranch with Jodie Hajdik might have been his favorite of all.
Mike will be remembered as a world class chef to many. When he was not out enjoying the hunt or snagging a redfish, he could be found indoors cooking up something for all of us to enjoy. His family will quickly argue whether his fried fish, fried onion rings, or fried turkey were the best, but whatever they wanted, Mike would happily serve.
His friendships are the truest testament to the kind of man he was. Whether you knew Mike from childhood, high school, or hunting/fishing trips, he was a friend to many and welcoming to all.
He and Shar celebrated 39 years of marriage. His family loved hunting and fishing with Mike.
Mike will be dearly missed by his wife, Shar Gilman; sister, Pat Vaughan and husband, Jack; nephew, Jack G. Vaughan and Amy; niece, Meredith Vaughan; nephew, Todd Gilman and wife, Suzanne; nephew, Arne Soldwedel and wife, Satoko; niece, Tracey Kassman and husband, John Hocieniec; niece, Jesse Lison and husband, Monty; niece, Heidi Montville and husband, Topher; sister-in-law, Sharon Rose Gilman; and several great nephews and great nieces.
