Joy Blanche Thames Sanders of Rosenberg, Texas passed away on October 25, 2020, while living in the Richmond Health Care Center in Richmond, Texas. She was born on November 24, 1928, in Houston, Texas, to W.W. and Thelma L. Thames.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband H.V. (Sandy) Sanders, daughter Glenna Joy Sanders, sister Thelma Lynn Laurence, brother James Wick (J.W.) Thames, nephew Larry W. Thames, and her parents. She is survived by two nieces, Judy Matheaus and Rachael Thames, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of the University of Houston, where she received her BA in Education and was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education. Joy started a private kindergarten in her home prior to beginning her teaching career at Bowie Elementary in Rosenberg, where she taught until she retired to spend more time with her beloved Glenna.
Joy was a longtime and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rosenberg, where she taught children’s Sunday School for many years. Joy was always prepared, on time, and standing at the door to greet the children who were in her care with a smile and a hug.
Joy was devoted to her daughter Glenna, her husband Sandy, her nieces and nephews, and her Lord Jesus Christ. She unapologetically shared her faith with friends, family, students, and even strangers whenever she could. She loved to read and study the Bible, and she was always eager to share what she learned with her family and friends. She will surely be missed.
A service honoring Joy’s life will be held at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Nate Sprinkle of Calvary Baptist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Boulevard, Rosenberg Texas.
