Bertha Nell Kelm

Bertha Nell Kelm, age 91, of Katy, Texas, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on March 31, 2021 surrounded by friends and family. Bertha, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, will be greatly missed.

Bertha was born on October 14, 1929 in Beasley, Texas, to Emil and Orillane Albright. She was raised in Beasley with her 6 sisters, where she also attended school.

She married Marcus E. “Mike” Kelm, Jr. on March 4, 1949, and they celebrated 59 years together before Mike passed away. They made their home in Rosenberg where they raised their three children.

Bertha was known throughout the Rosenberg area for selling Avon, which she did for more than 60 years. She was able to touch many lives across three generations as she visited with her customers.

She loved to travel, which she was able to do with her husband after the children started their own families. She continued to enjoy traveling with her daughters and was regularly seen with the girls at the Alley Theater. She loved to teach her granddaughters how to make pie crusts and her famous coconut pie.

Bertha devoted much of her time to service in various fraternal and veterans’ organizations. She was a member and past president of the VFW Milton Brenner Post 3903 Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Post 271 Auxiliary. She was Past President of Royal Neighbors and Past Worthy Matron and Endowed Member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 429, where she served for more than 50 years. Bertha participated in the Rosenberg Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Organization.

Bertha was active in the community, always looking for a way to serve. She was a member of the City of Rosenberg Parks Board for many years. She was a “caller” for both the VFW Bingo and American Legion Bingo.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rosenberg and then the First United Methodist Church of Fulshear after moving to Fulshear to live with her daughter.

Bertha is survived by son Charles W. Kelm and wife Linda Kay, daughters Phyllis Kelm King and Elizabeth Annette Kelm, grandchildren Justin Aaron Kelm, Allison Maire Wadsworth and husband Marty, Amanda King Teague and husband Jeremy, great-grandchildren Tristan King Wadsworth and Kipton James Wadsworth, and sister-in-law Dolly Holton.
