Balke L. Mahler, Jr.

Balke L. Mahler, Jr. (Buddy) passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 2, 2021, in Richmond, Texas.

Buddy was born in Richmond, Texas, February 22, 1956, to Balke and Amy Mahler. He graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1975. While in high school, he worked with his father and his uncle, Bill Briscoe, working cattle, mowing pasture, and baling hay. He could also be found at the Simonton Rodeo on weekends helping Smokey Davis with the rodeo stock. Later in life, Buddy began working for Lamar Consolidated ISD in their maintenance department, but continued to spend the majority of his time raising cattle on the family property, where he was happiest. Buddy loved the outdoors; being with family; and helping others work cattle and bale hay. He had a big heart and was always willing and eager to help anyone in need. Buddy’s personality and giving heart were treasured by those who knew him.

Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, Balke and Amy Mahler; favorite uncle, Bill Briscoe; sister-in-law Dot Mahler; brother-in-law Dale Warn; and niece Megan Warn.

Buddy is survived by his brothers, Charlie Mahler and wife Paula, Bill Mahler; and sister, Dru Warn. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Eric, Amanda, and Trey Mahler; Stacie Schnabel and husband Darren; Jorden Mahler and wife Stephanie; Melissa Inman and husband Alan. Buddy’s other blessings included great-nieces and nephews: Hailey, Jenna, and Reed Schnabel; Easton and Ella Mahler; and Cole and Ty Inman.

Due to COVID 19 circumstances, the family will have a private graveside service at the Briscoe Family Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Wharton for taking such wonderful care of Buddy and for the friendships that he made while there. The family would also like to thank the ICU nursing staff at OakBend in Richmond for the compassionate care shown to Buddy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider contributing to Grace Community Bible Church, 5121 FM 359, Richmond, TX 77406, which Buddy’s parents helped establish in 1980 or to a charity of your choice.
