Investigators continue to wait for toxicology results in connection with a motor vehicle collision early Sunday evening south of Needville that resulted in two deaths and sent a third occupant to the hospital.
At approximately 6:18 p.m., Fort Bend Couny sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 17900 block of SH 36 where they discovered a two-vehicle wreck.
According to a preliminary investigation, investigators believe the Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck was traveling south on SH 36 when it crossed over onto oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle, possibly either a Chevy Tahoe or Suburban.
The driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as Samuel Staton, 40.
According to the report, there were two occupants in the other vehicle. Both were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced deceased at the hospital. He has been identified as James Scott, 64. The other occupant is listed in stable but critical condition.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting results from toxicology reports to determine if alcohol was involved.
