The Rosenberg Development Corp. will soon have to find a new contractor for its downtown planter project. At Thursday’s RDC meeting, board members will discuss the contract for maintenance of the downtown flower pots.

The Garden Girl of Texas was contracted in March 2018 for the maintenance and care of flower pots in the commercial business areas. And in December, the contract was extended with an amended maintenance schedule, for a term ending on Sept. 30.

However, Garden Girl of Texas will not renew the agreement to service the pots. According to city staff, the board will review quotes for the maintenance services.

The 2020 fiscal year budget includes $25,000 for downtown maintenance.

RDC members will also discuss the board’s interest in the continuation of monthly windshield reports. In the past, monthly windshield and data reports were distributed to RDC members.

These reports included current projects and developments throughout the city, as well as a data report containing information regarding new home construction updates, economic indicators and sales tax comparisons.

In other business, board members will receive an update from the Tourism and Main Street Manager regarding the direction of the Main Street Program and its upcoming events. As of December 2018, reports were no longer distributed, city staff revealed.

Since then, city staff has received phones calls and questions regarding such information. The RDC is an economic development corporation funded by a one-half cent sales tax.

The board engages in projects related to primary job creation in the city. The RDC meeting will take place at 4 p.m. at the Rosenberg Civic & Convention Center, 3825 SH 36.
