Fort Bend County has agreed to begin the construction of direct connection from the Westpark Tollway (FM 1093) to Grand Parkway (State Highway 99).
At Tuesday’s commissioner’s court meeting, commissioners voted 4-0 to enter an interlocal agreement with the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority to provide funding for the project. Fort Bend County Judge KP George was absent from the meeting.
The county will transfer over $10.2 million to the toll road authority.
“Instead of being funded by the county general fund, it’s actually being funded by the sales tax revenue that has been collected,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers said. He also said that the westbound-to-northbound direct connect will not be tolled.
The project will also include constructing eastbound and westbound connections at the same time, Meyers said.
Meyers also said that he has coordinated with the Texas Department of Transportation to speed up the timeframe of the widening of Grand Parkway between I-10 and the Westpark Tollway.
“These flyovers will not be opened until TxDOT gives the word that their SH 99 mainlane improvements are ready,” Meyers said.
The county’s design engineers will work with TxDOT to coordinate all aspects of the flyover connections, the merge patterns, and the length of the bridges, Meyers said that the county will try to make sure the connectors align with the Grand Parkway lane improvements in the next couple of years.
