Rosenberg Mayor Bill Benton said it best: good towns have sidewalks. So when city council members discussed the upcoming sidewalk projects for the next fiscal year, it’s no wonder it garnered 100% of support from the council.
At the last regular Rosenberg City Council meeting, Economic Development Director Jeremy Heath presented a list of possible sidewalk projects for the council to consider.
Listed are the following locations for the installation of new sidewalks that connect to commercial areas:
- Avenue I/FM 1640 from 1st Street/SH 36 to Bamore Road — $144,785.64
- Old Richmond Road from 8th Street to Habitat Lane — $117,925.19
- Vista Drive at Commercial Drive — $14,749.83
The cumulative total for all three project locations is $277,460, which is within the $300,000 included in the 2021 fiscal year RDC budget for new sidewalks.
“Good towns have good sidewalks and they’re all (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant,” Benton said. “I hope that the city council members will always in the future support sidewalks."
The rest of council agreed that these sidewalks will be good for the area.
“I think sidewalks are one of those things that people... will use and take advantage of,” council member Kevin Raines said. “It’s a real good addition to the city.”
Councilmember Jacob Balderas concurred, adding that good cities have added mobility. Councilmember Isaac Davila then made a motion to accept the RDC’s proposed sidewalk locations. The motion was seconded by Benton and passed unanimously.
The next Rosenberg City Council meeting will be held Dec. 1 at City Hall, 2110 Fourth St.
