Jacob Balderas defeated former city council member Alice Jozwiak in the race for At-Large Position 1 seat on the Rosenberg City Council on Saturday.

Political newcomer and former Rosenberg police detective Kevin Raines fended off former city council member Susan Kroll Euton in the race for At-Large Position 2 on the council.

Balderas and Raines will serve a two-year terms of office. Council members are limited to three consecutive terms of office.

Balderas drew 59% of the votes in the runoff race, or 797 votes. Jozwiak garnered 551 votes.

Raines earned 67.1 percent of the vote, or 919 of the ballots cast in the runoff election. Euton collected 449 votes.

All four candidates were forced into a runoff election when none of them received more than 50% of the vote in the May 4 city election.

Of the 17,727 residents eligible to vote in the election, less than 8% turned out to vote in person or by mail.
