Needville ISD reported its first cases of students testing positive for COVID-19, saying that one high school student and one junior high student have tested positive.

In a letter to parents on Wednesday, the district did not release any information about the two students.

However, it did identify all the students who may have been in close contact with the two positive students, and “have taken the appropriate actions to remove those potential risks for further spread,” the letter said.

NISD also said that it has disinfected all area that the students have entered and cleans its classrooms several times a day.

“Please continue to screen yourself and your child before entering any of our NISD buildings,” the letter said.

These are the first cases of the coronavirus for Needville ISD since the district opened its schools last week.

Over 62% of the overall student population opted for in-person learning at the schools, while the rest are utilizing online education.

Lamar Consolidated ISD also had at least four cases of COVID-19 this week, with three students at Meyer Elementary School and one at Foster High School testing positive.
