The deadline for Needville ISD teachers to submit grant applications to the Needville Education Foundation (NEF) is Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Executive Krauss said teachers began submitting the applications May 1 after board members decided to start the process a little earlier this year.
“We changed our dates with the thinking that when the teachers end the school year, they look back on what they could have used,” she said. “Likewise, when they start a new school year, plenty of classroom needs come to mind.”
Krauss said NEF’s mission is to assist in purchasing for NISD classrooms educational resources that motivate and encourage every student to learn in their own way. Its motto is, “With wisdom, initiative and knowledge, we will continue tradition and achieve greatness.”
The grants allow Needville ISD teachers to think outside the box and engage students in the classroom every day. This year’s theme is “EPIC: Extra Potential In Classrooms.”
“This year will be epic,” Krauss said. “NEF wants to see our teachers find useful resources to use in their classrooms from grades pre-k through12. We want to see our teachers happy, because if they are happy our kids are happy and are learning.”
The organization hosted a back-to-school breakfast on Aug. 12, with tacos from Los Charros and donuts from the Donut Shop.
“Also, Richmond HEB was very generous by donating fresh fruit for our staff,” Krauss said.” It was a wonderful first day back for everyone, with a great breakfast enjoyed by all.”
Shortly thereafter, Krauss met with new staff members at various campus events to explain to them about NEF and its board’s desire to help them in their classrooms.
In addition to Krauss, NEF board members are President Amber Morris, treasurer Jenny Schnitzer, secretary Carrie Graves, Tom Wallis, Ralph Albright, Joel Barrios, Quart Graves, Assistant Superintendent Beth Briscoe and Superintendent Curtis Rhodes.
The annual NEF Blue Jean Ball fundraiser is set for 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at the Columbus Club Hall on Texas 36 South in Needville.
“As always, we are looking for live and silent auction items and will accept them at any time,” Krauss said. “Our community and all of Fort Bend County have been extremely supportive of NISD and the Needville Education Foundation, and we look forward to another terrific year.”
Grant applications are available online by following the NEF link at www.needvilleisd.com or by calling Krauss at 979-793-4308 or 281-725-7815.
