Fort Bend History Association

Fort Bend History Association Executive Director Claire Rogers said even though George Ranch Historical Park isn’t located in the city of Rosenberg, it doesn’t mean that the city’s not being promoted.

This was Rogers’ argument when she spoke on behalf of the history association at Tuesday night’s special Rosenberg City Council meeting.Council voted to allocate $3,000 to the nonprofit association for marketing related to the Texian Market Days, which will be held at George Ranch Historical Park on Saturday.

The Hotel Occupancy Tax committee met in September to review five projects it recommended for funding.

The Fort Bend History Association was the only applicant not funded at last week’s regular city council meeting due to a tie vote.

Before council deliberated Tuesday, Rogers contended that the history association encourages tourism for the city of Rosenberg by constantly promoting the city’s rich history.

“(We have) 12 banners that we created with different historical facts,” she began. “Each of those banners was placed in a different venue in our county. Out of the 12 banners, four of them directly promote Rosenberg.

“Another way we promoted the history of Rosenberg this summer is that I attend-ed the Old Spanish Trail Centennial Celebration Association meeting in Houston. They’re celebrating 100 years of the Old Spanish Trail, which is U.S. 90.

“So, we created an exhibit to showcase each of the cities that fall along U.S. 90. Rosenberg is one of those.”
