Championship Brahmas

East Bernard High school will be sending a large contingent to the Region III-3A championship after sweeping the District 24-3A team titles over Boling, Danbury and Palacios on Monday at Wharton High School.

The girls won with 77.5 points and the boys won with 72.5 points.

Head coach Breanna Lolley’s squad had 15 of her 16 varsity players qualified for the regional tournament. The Region III-3A tournament will take place Wednesday, Apr. 17 and Thursday, Apr. 18 at A&M Consolidated in College Station.

Ethan Rejsek won his third-straight district title in boys singles. He defeated Boling’s Preston Miller in the championship with a score of 6-2, 6-4.

Jackson Barta placed third in the tournament with a win over Palacios 6-0,6-0.

Ethan Rejsek and Preston Miller qualified for regionals and Jackson will be an alternate.

In girls singles, Rylee Kellner defeated Madison Crist (7-5,6-2) in the championship match.

Madison Crist then had to play a playback against Palacios’ Reagan Ramirez. She defeated Palacios 6-1,6-2. Both Rylee and Madison qualified for regionals.

East Bernard’s Mason Crist and Caleb Magness defeated Patrick Hlavinka and Ethan Hlavinka in the boys’ doubles championship: 6-0,0-6,6-4.

Boling’s boys’ doubles team had to play it out for third place with EB’s Jake Goodrich & Kyle Sanchez won. Both boys’ doubles teams qualified for regionals.

For girls doubles, Peyton McGuire and Rina Bowers defeated Brooke Babin and McKenna Novicke, 6-1,6-1, in the championship.

Boling duo of Rachel Wittig and Azalynne Chilek defeated Danbury, forcing Brooke and McKenna had to play a playback match. Brooke and McKenna defeated Boling 6-1,6-1.

Both EB girls’ doubles teams qualified for regionals.

The Brahmas’ mixed doubles team of Jonah Kubena and Abbi Joines defeated Boling (Chase Chumchal/Maria Gonzalez) in a nailbiter: 2-6,6-0,6-4.

Jonah and Abbi lost to Cole Lee and Emma Potts in the championship match 6-1,6-4.

Both EB mixed doubles teams qualified for regionals.

On the junior varsity tournament, Boone Lee and Evan Wilson won the boys doubles. The duo defeated Danbury (8-0) and then beat Palacios in the championship match with a score of 8-2.

Camden East defeated Palacios 8-2 to win the girls’ singles title.

Katelyn Bartlett and Shelby Reeves went 1-1 to place 2nd in girls’ doubles.

Katelyn, Shelby, and Camden combined enough points to win the junior varsity girls title.
