Fort Bend County Libraries’ University Branch Library will feature a free Friday Film Series this fall. The movies will be shown on October 4 and 25, beginning at 1:00 pm, in Meeting Room 1 of the library, located at 14010 University Blvd in Sugar Land, on the UH campus.

The movie on Friday, October 4, is about Selena Quintanilla-Perez, who is played by Jennifer Lopez in this biographical drama released in 1997. A Texas-born Tejano pop-singing sensation, Selena rose from cult status to an extraordinary career that transcended the Tejano scene to cross over into mainstream success before her tragic slaying at the age of 23. This movie is rated PG.

The series continues on Friday, October 25. This romantic musical drama is based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway hit about a disfigured composer and his unrequited love for an opera singer. Released in 2004, this film is rated PG-13.

The movies are free and open to the public. The libraries’ licensing agreement for public showing of films prohibits them from releasing the name of the movie outside of the library. For more information about the featured movies, see the Fort Bend County Libraries website (, or call the University Branch Library (281-633-5100) or the library system’s Communications Office (281-633-4734).
