Stars of Essence No. 71

The city of Richmond paid tribute to the Stars of Essence No. 71, a nonprofit organization whose volunteers have contributed countless hours to the community and its citizens by donating more than 300 school supply backpacks, 40 bicycles, education and health projects, such as College Row, Healthy Handwashing and Go Red Day, which is to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease in women. The Stars of Essence also hold an annual Sickle Cell Walk to bring awareness to Sickle Cell Anemia and raise money for a cure. The grou also provided 50 Thanksgiving Day meals to families and brought joy to countless Freeman Town children over the years by hosting its annual toy give away each Christmas. Accepting the proclamation are Constance Greenwood-Bowie and Mary Greenwood-Miller and Debra Greenwood-Sharp. Mayor Evalyn Moore presented the proclamation.
