At their June 10 meeting, Needville ISD trustees unanimously approved salary increases for the 2020-2021 school year.

The annual salary for new teachers was increased from $52,500 to $53,000, and employees who are not on the teacher pay scale will see a pay increase of 2%.

Those on the teacher pay scale will receive a $500 increase as well as the state-mandated annual step increase according to the number of years they have been teaching.

Assistant Supt. of Finance Ben Pape said salaries are typically approved in April, but the uncertainty of the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on the budget necessitated a delay.

“There are a lot of changes and a lot of unknowns with COVID-19,” he said. “We wanted to be conservative but we don’t know the impact COVID-19 will have.”

The district’s per diem rate will decrease by half a cent as a result of the IRS’s adjustment for this year, making it 57.5 cents per mile.
