Fort Bend County Libraries’ George Memorial Library will celebrate the holiday season with a festive “WinterFest” event on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Special winter-themed craft activities will be set up for children in the Youth Services department. Two family-friendly holiday movies will be shown beginning at 11:15 a.m. and 1 p.m., in Room 2A.

The drawing for the “Love Your Library” quilt raffle will take place at 1 p.m. Tickets are still available until the drawing takes place. It is not necessary to be present to win.

The first movie is a family comedy starring Will Ferrell as Buddy, an orphaned baby who stows away in Santa’s sack and ends up at the North Pole. As he grows up, Buddy’s ungainly size inadvertently wreaks havoc on the elf community, so Santa allows him to go to New York City to search for his true identity. This movie is rated PG.

The second movie is a popular holiday classic. Set in early 1940s Cleveland, this 1983 family comedy is about a young boy named Ralphie who attempts to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder BB gun really is the perfect Christmas gift. This movie is rated PG.

Made possible by the Friends of the George Memorial Library, the event is free and open to the public.
