Jerry W. Jones has been appointed economic development director for the city of Richmond and the Development Corporation of Richmond.

The Louisiana native brings over 12 years of experience in neighborhood revitalization, regional outreach, downtown district development, business recruitment, retention, and expansion, and workforce development.

“The city of Richmond is thrilled to have a person with Jerry’s knowledge, experience, and vision to guide and support our development corporation,” said Richmond City Manager Terri Vela.

“As our city continues to grow both residentially and commercially, we look forward to his leadership and innovations.”

As the director of economic development for the Development Corporation of Richmond, Jones will work with a seven-member board.

“I am so honored to have the opportunity to serve the businesses and all the citizens of Richmond,” Jones said.

“The city of Richmond, as well as the greater Fort Bend County area, is experiencing rapid growth, which means this is a great opportunity to assist our small businesses with expansion and continued progress.”

Jones’ past experience includes serving as director of economic development for IMPACT North Baton Rouge, also referred to as Baton Rouge North Economic Development District and St. John the Baptist Parish.

He was elected as District 3 City Councilman for the city of Alexandria, La.

His work profile includes being project manager for Central Louisiana Business Incubator, economic developer for Imperial Calcasieu Regional Planning and Development Commission, and CEO for Lake Charles North Redevelopment Authority.

Jones served on various boards, both civic and professional as well as commissions and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc and Jno G. Lewis Jr. Lodge No. 261.

After graduating with a degree in political science from Southern University and Agricultural & Mechanical College.

Jones later attended the University of Southern Mississippi and received his True South Basic Certification in economic development.

He then completed the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma in Norman and the Authentic Leadership program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
