The Fort Bend County Parks & Recreation Department hosts Senior Adult Fishing Tournament

Tyrone Evans, 65, of Katy, casts his bait into the pond at Jones Creek Park during the first-ever Senior Adult Fishing Tournament on Thursday. More than 70 individuals took part in the three-hour activity, sponsored by the Fort Bend County Parks & Recreation Department. That’s Joan Parker, 74, of Sugar Land, fishing alongside Tyrone, a regular angler at the park and who caught several keepers during the tournament. He also gave some of his catch away to other less successful anglers. Tyrone reeled in a 10-inch catfish and 13-inch crappie.

Tim Gebauer holds a 17 inch freshwater drum caught by Effie Calico. Tim is the angler education area chief for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which waived fishing fees and fishing licenses for the event. Paul Haydel hauled in a 10-3/4 inch rainbow trout while John Baranowskicaught a 6-1/2 inch and a 4-1/2 inch trout. His wife, Vivienne reeled in a two trouts 5-3/4 and 6-1/2 inches in length. Calico won a trophy for her angling prowess.
