Video Sol in Rosenberg will soon receive a makeover.

At the Rosenberg City Council meeting Tuesday, council members awarded the Main Street program facade improvement matching grant to the video game rental store.

The grant, not to exceed $1,400, will be used to replace the awning above the front entrance.

Video Sol is located at 913 Third St.

The grant funds are generated by the Hotel Occupancy Tax fund.

Projects eligible for facade grants include masonry repair, painting, repair of architectural details, repairs associated with maintaining the structural integrity of the building and more.

“So the awning is $2,800?” Mayor Bill Benton asked. “And the public is paying half? And that program is approved by the council?”

Economic Development Director Jeremy Heath said that was all correct.

“We will review the funding of that program this year in the budget,” Benton continued. “I, for one, am not crazy about the idea for using public money for things like that. It’s not a municipal service.”

This item was placed on the consent agenda. There was no further discussion.

Council member Isaac Davila made a motion to award the facade improvement matching grant to Video Sol. The motion was seconded by council member Richard Olson and passed unanimously.

The next regular Rosenberg City Council meeting will be held July 7.

Citizens will be allowed to attend council meetings, but must first be screened for symptoms associated with COVID-19, including a temperature check; and must wear a protective mask while in Rosenberg City Hall.
