The fiscal year doesn’t begin for another couple weeks, but the Rosenberg Police Department is already taking action on spending next year’s budget.
At the most recent regular Rosenberg City Council meeting, council members authorized the agreement between the police department and Vista Com for public safety recording solutions in the amount of $71,262.
The police department’s current solution-based software that captures, stores and retrieves audio from PD phone lines and radio transmissions throughout the organization has reached its end of life and is no longer supported by the manufacturer, Police Chief Jonathan White explained.
There have been sporadic failures with the system and replacement will allow for expanded storage and for better retrieving, reporting and analysis of data.
A new public safety recording solution was included in the FY2021 adopted budget in the amount of $81,000 from the law enforcement fund.
This project is considered a high priority and police officers are hoping to receive training in early October.
Council member Isaac Davila made a motion to authorize the agreement with Vista Com. The motion was seconded by council member Tim Anders and passed unanimously.
In other business, council members authorized an engineering services agreement for the Bamore Road Expansion Project from U.S. 59 to Stella Road.
The additional engineering services for a bridge design at Seabourne Creek will cost the city $48,246.
In December, council hired engineering firm CivilCorp to complete the Bamore Road expansion project in the amount of $197,474.
A capital improvement project to extend Bamore Road was included in the 2017 Fort Bend County Mobility Bond issue.
The next regular Rosenberg City Council meeting will be held via Zoom teleconference on Oct. 6.
Citizens will not be allowed to attend council meetings, but can still ask questions via letters, telephone or email.
