Kids can dust off their fishing poles as local children aged 4 through 16 are eligible to compete in the City of Rosenberg’s 21st annual FISH-tastic Kids Fishing Tournament on March 25.

The tournament will occur at Seabourne Creek Nature Park Pond at 3821 Highway 36 S.

Director of Communications Tanya Kveton expects a huge turnout after the tournament moved from February to March.

“We have already over 40 kids registered so I expect if the trend continues, we will be close to 200,” Kveton said. “We are hoping the weather will be pretty like it has been and people will come out.”

Entry is free and trophies will be awarded by age divisions in several categories.

  • 4-6 years old
  • 7-9 years old
  • 10-12 years old
  • 13-16 years old

The Rosenberg Communications Department puts on the event.

Kveton vividly remembers fishing as a child and wants a new generation to enjoy that same experience.

“We wanted to expose the kids to everything we have here, including our nature,” Kveton said. “This is a beautiful park and many kids just don’t go out and fish. There are a lot of kids who live in town who haven’t done that before so we wanted to give them the experience of being in the tournament, winning a trophy and catching that fish.”

Categories include trophies for Biggest Fish and Most Fish Caught. Winners will have a variety of door prizes to choose from.

Kveton said that participants must bring their own fishing gear, including rods, reels and bait.

Guests are also encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to sit on.

Registration forms can be found at https://www.rosenbergtx.gov/FormCenter/Communications-26/FISHTASTIC-Kids-Fishing-Tournament-Regis-98.

Parents must attend but are only required to supervise as children are the only ones allowed to fish.
