East Bernard, Brazos earn seven slots

    Despite down 2009 seasons, the East Bernard and Brazos baseball teams placed seven athletes on the 26-2A All-district teams, as voted on by the district head coaches.

    Earning All-district First Team honors were East Bernard seniors Cameron Orsak and outfielder Chris Plunkett.

    Voted to the All-district Second Team were senior James Powell and junior Zach Rivera of East Bernard, along with Brazos junior James Powell, junior Tristan Williams and sophomore Matt Fernandez.

    The District’s Most Valuable Player was Hallettsville senior Colby Schindler, Offensive Player of the Year was Schulenburg junior Dusty Broun and Co-Defensive Players of the Year were Weimar senior Brandon Ramirez and Hallettsville senior Aaron Alvarez.


    The Newcomer of the Year was Weimar freshman Dylan Blaha, while Coach of the Year honors went to Schulenburg head coach LaBaron Graham.

    Also taking All-district First Team awards were outfielder Tanner Carson, outfielder Chad Bujnoch, infielder Tyler Bludau and pitcher Garrett Henke of Hallettsville; infielder Matt Sosa and pitcher Trent Popp of Rice Consolidated; outfielder Bryon Powe, utility Kyle Bludau, infielder Marty Bigham and pitcher Cody Broun of Schulenburg, and outfielder Jeremy Maupin, infielder Coy Guentert and catcher Logan Ramirez of Weimar.

    Earning All-district Second Team honors were infielder Nolan Besetzny and infielder Jameson Grasshof of Hallettsville; outfielder Archie Taylor of Hempstead; pitcher Mario Hull of Rice Consolidated; outfielder J.C. Bujnoch and infielder Doran Proske of Schulenburg, and outfielder Connor Bell and pitcher Paul Edwards of Weimar.
